Corsets have been around for centuries and although they have evolved, their purpose has remained the same: cinching the waistline and lifting up the bust.
As an undergarment, women wanted to change their body shape, giving the illusion of an hourglass figure. In modern times they have been worn in both the bedroom and paired with everyday wear. Not to mention we do not have ladies maids to help us lace up a corset.
Many women are intimidate by getting them to fit properly, but fear not, with this guide you can do it!
Corset Parts
Begin by understanding the parts of your corset. Locate the front hooks, undo the back lacing of your corset – if it is tied, and see where the tie loops are – around the mid section.
Close the Front Hooks
Start by loosening the back lacing of your corset. Fit it around your body with room to spare and close the front hooks. This could take some patience since without them being tight they tend to come undone. But hang in there – it will be so worth it!
Prepare for Lacing
Before you get to fully lacing up your corset let’s begin by adjusting the waistline. Tug on the tie loops while setting its waist over your natural waist. You will know how tight you would like it to be as you adjust it. Hold the loops securely. At this stage there will still be excess lacing at the top and bottom of your corset.
Lace it Up
Continue holding onto the loops at the waistline. At the top of the back lacing of your corset there will be an “X” shape of ribbon. Grab onto the top X of ribbon and pull on it. Continue working down each X of the corset while securely holding onto the loops at the mid section.
Repeat the process, by now tightening the Xs from the bottom of the corset to the waistline. Then pull on the loops so that there is no excess “hanging” on either top or bottom. When the corset is tight yet comfortable, tie the loops into a bow. And voila!
